Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. 
Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar, causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the space between the big rocks. Then he asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?" By this time the class was on to him. "Probably not," one of them answered. 

"Good!" he replied. He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in the jar, and it went into all of the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. 

Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?" "No," the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good." 
Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was 
filled to the brim. 

Then he looked at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"
One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard you can always fit some more things in it!" 
"No," the speaker replied, "That's not the point. The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks in first, you'll never get them in at all." 
What are the "big rocks" in your life? Your children, your loved ones, your education, your dreams, a worthy cause, teaching or mentoring others, doing things that you love, time for yourself, your health, your significant other. Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all. If you sweat the little stuff (the gravel, the sand) then you'll fill your life with little things you worry about that don't really matter, and you'll never have the real quality time you need to spend on the big, important stuff (the big rocks). 
So, tonight or in the morning when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself this 
question: What are the "big rocks" in my life? Then, put those in your jar first.

Today, I want to cover something a little more fundamental. 
I want to talk to you about "Success".
The definition of Success (Oxford) is:
noun [mass noun]  The accomplishment of an aim or purpose:

•  The attainment of fame, wealth, or social status.
  
•  [count noun] A person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains fame, wealth, etc.

Origin: mid 16th century: from Latin successus, from the verb 
succedere 'come close after'.
Earl Nightingale - one of the most known teachers and perhaps one of the founders of the "Personal Development" industry defines Success:
"Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal".

The former talks about the end result, the latter talks about the progress. Of course they are both correct depending on the situation, but let me ask you this: if a person is "A Success", does that mean that they are "Successful"?
Let me give you an example: I'm sure you know people who have a very "Successful Career", but are hugely overweight, or don't see their family at all, or never ever hang out with their friends or watch a movie.
Another example is a person who has achieved a "Spiritual Enlightenment", but can't afford a new pair of sandals. Both are examples of individuals who have achieved great success in a certain area of life, but are failing in other areas immensely.

Great mentors such as Zig Ziglar, Bob Proctor, Dr. John DeMartini and Tony Robbins teach about the 7 areas of life:

Each of them teach a little differently, but the idea is the same:
If you want to be successful in life, you must master the 7 areas of your life. By "Master" I mean achieve success in each of these areas. 
Now - most people's subconscious would object - "I can barely create success in ONE area, how do you want me to achieve success in all 7??"

That's a great question!
The answer is simple: use Earl Nightingale's definition for success:
"Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal".
All you need to do right now is choose your goals or ideals for 2014, 
then start realizing them right now! RIGHT NOW!
It's possible, and it's simple. Start with small goals like:

• This year I will release 10 pounds. 
  
• This year I will earn an additional 5K. 
  
• This year I will spend 1 hour per week with my family/spouse/kids.
• This year I will walk/run/bike/meditate once per week.
• This year I will read another 5 books...

Now after you have your 7 new goals in front of you, rephrase them into affirmations like this:
I'm so happy and grateful that I weigh (your weight minus 10 pounds).
or
I'm so happy and grateful that I'm making (your income + 5K) this year.

Now while you're reading these 5 times per day - GET EXCITED!
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT - BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN EVERY AREA OF LIFE AND INSPIRED OTHERS!!!
YES YOU CAN!

Boy - was it hard....
But interestingly enough not as hard as I had imagined...
Then I reached the top of the hill and I was running up there with a wonderful feeling of joy and accomplishment - and of course the view was breathtaking. Then, I kept running till the end point without any difficulty.

So here are my 3 conclusions:

1. If it's hard - we must be going uphill! 
2. Everything looks much better when you're at the top!
3. Once we've gone up - everything else is easy!

This was posted on my FaceBook wall on March 2, 2013 and is 
dedicated to all of you out there who may be struggling right now with something. It doesn't what it is in life, please remember: if things are difficult right now - it means you're going up. Once you're at the top you'll realize that it was worth it! :-)
